3. common ground between mineral processing and mechanical process engineering As the current process engineering disciplines have a di-rect root in the raw material and commodities industry, there is still a large amount of common ground between the two fields of technology, and that is particularly the case with mechanical processing. In the

The extraction of raw minerals begins with the mining of rich ores, which are then cut up in crushers and grinders. The pieces of rock initially weighing tonnes are ground down to a few tenths of a millimetre. This grinding process, which often covers six decimal orders
Ore dressing is a process of mechanically separating the grains of ore minerals from the gangue minerals, to produce a concentrate (enriched portion) containing most of the ore minerals and a tailing (discard) containing the bulk of the gangue minerals.
During ore dressing, the crude ore is reduced in size to a point where each mineral stone becomes essentially free so as to make separation between them. Such a phenomenon of making the mineral grains free from gangue in an ore is termed as liberation. This is practically carried out by size reduction performed by crushers and grinding mills.

engineering point of view any physical operation carried out on the ore to enhance its quality and make it more suitable for subsequent operations will be termed as Ore Dressing or Mineral Beneficiation. So mineral dressing or ore dressing is commonly regarded as processing of raw ores to yield marketable products by such physical means those do not destroy the physical and stone identity

Mineral processing, mineral beneficiation, or upgradation involves handling three primary types of ROM material, which have been blasted, fragmented, and brought out from an in situ position. These materials can be used directly or by simple or complex processing and even by applying extractive metallurgy like hydrometallurgical or pyrometallurgical methods.
Taggart's Handbook of Mineral Dressing is a must have book for anyone interested in the early methods employed for mineral recovery. It is also an excellent source book for old mining camp and ghost town seekers that may wish to delve further into the uses of some of the equipment they might find at old mills. Packed full of detailed descriptions of flowsheets and equipment, this book opens a
During the 18th century, most of the ore dressing (or processing) was done by hand. From the early 19th century, it became much more mechanised but female and child labour remained particularly important especially in relation to copper mines. Miners’ children started work by the age of eight or nine shovelling and hauling ore, or tending the dressing floors. Women and girls in mining
